Presidents Message

Rebels Family,

Welcome to the kick off of the 2010 Pleasant Hill Rebels.

The 2009 season for the Rebels was one of the best the organization has had in years and this is due to each of you parents and athletes who participated in our season. So I would like to say Thank You for making the 2009 season a success. I would like to see the 2010 season be even better I think with the right people in the right places we can be even more successful than last year.

This is the new season of the Rebels and the sky is the limit

The Rebels is such a successful family because of all the time so many of you put in every week. We have had some major changes in the structure of the organization. The 2009 president Roz Rigley has resigned. I would like to say Thank You to Roz and his family for all the time they have given over the years. Roz will be greatly missed as President. Roz and his family will still be around as they have two boys in the program so if you see him please take a moment and say thank you to him.

With this announcement I want to introduce the members that are new and returning to our executive board.

So with that I would like to introduce the 2010 Pleasant Hill Rebels Executive Board.

President Wayne Stephens
VP of Football Sasha McGraw
VP of Cheer Courtney Diaz
Director of Operations Don Wildes
Secretary Kate Stephens
Treasurer Belinda Van Tonder
Director of Marketing Shawn Nygard

I believe we have the right people in the right positions to build from the foundation the 2009 board has created. I would like to see us up on top with the other Organizations like the San Ramon and Clayton Valley’s.

I do believe with our success we are going to be one of the organizations that everyone will want to face on the field and I believe to be successful we need to play up to the level of these other organizations. In order to do this we are putting in place a new process to choose and make sure we have the right head coaches and coaching staffs in place for each of our teams to be successful and teach our athletes. This process is being put in place for both football and cheer. You will each see familiar and new faces on both sides.

After speaking to each of the other members of the board, we all agree that we as an organization are here to not only have a winning organization, but just as important if not in many cases more important, we need to be here to teach and mold the youth for the future not just the present. The future being High School, College and then Life itself. We would like to make sure we have a positive impact on these student athletes. No athlete or parent should ever leave here not feeling that this was some of the greatest years for the student athlete. Our goal is to have each of your athletes and families look forward to coming back each year. We will be working on adding other events for us to spend time with each other off the field to build the unity in our Rebel family.

Football
We have added a new VP of Football this year Sasha McGraw who has been with the Rebels for many years and has a great passion for the Rebels. Sasha is taking over a position that last year was held by Chris Croft who also has stepped down this year. Sasha was the coach of the Midget team last year which was a playoff team. Sasha has done many great things over the years and I believe the addition of him to the VP position will help us structure the football teams to be not only in the playoffs but Turkey Bowl bound.

Cheer
We have also added a new VP of Cheer Courtney Diaz. Courtney has an extensive background in cheer and is looking to turn the program around. We have had two very important people over the past couple of years who have really kept our cheer program a float. Christina Lynch and Angie Vier, I would like to thank them for all the time and effort they have put in to just be able to keep cheer together and functional. Over the last few years, the cheer program has always just been here and I would like to see it be just as important as football. I believe that cheer is just as important to the Rebel family as football. We are not two different sports we are one family trying to be successful. Courtney is right on track with this and is looking to make the major changes to the cheer program starting from the ground up. All coaches will need to be interviewed by Courtney and her supporting staff. There will be a change in how the junior coaches are handled and how the junior coaches handle our cheerleaders. These changes will in-turn show in our performances at the games, supporting our football players, and also on the competition level. We would like to see our cheerleaders again be some of the elite cheerleaders in the DVYFC.

 Coaching
We are looking to put the best coaches possible on the field this year for all squads. With the new process we are putting in place to choose the coaches to teach our student athletes. Every head coach will need to go through an application process then in front of a coach’s commission. This process will need to be done by both football and cheer. The VP of Football and Cheer will be involved with the commission and then they will present to the board who they believe should be in these head coaching positions and why. All coaches will be placed based on the skill set needed for each division. With this said anyone and everyone who is interested in coaching no matter if it is as a head coach, assistant, or if you know of a junior coach interested please have them contact.

Registration
We will be opening registration early this year with a few changes also. The biggest of the changes is that EVERYONE will need to signup online through the company we are using, Sportability; once registration is open you will be able to go to a link from our website www.phrebels.org. We will also be sending out emails to all letting you know when, where, and how to signup. We will not be accepting checks this year as payment or deposit; you will need to use a Credit Card, Cash, or bank Cashier’s Check. We are eliminating checks for a couple of reasons one being with credit cards we can track all transactions easier and you can also. Two we have had a few returned checks that does cost the Rebels a fee every time a check is returned and this takes away our ability to get the appropriate things needed for the your athletes. Scholarships, we will have a limited number of scholarships. For anyone that is going to request a scholarship there will be an application and a committee that will review and contact each of them individually.

 Nonprofit / Donations
The Pleasant Hill Rebels are now a nonprofit organization. This is something that we have not been over the past years. This is something that I believe can help us move forward with our overall goal. With the nonprofit status we are able to accept donations which will allow us to get new equipment for the organization. Donations do not just come to us, we will need to put in some work to get them but they are out there for us to go and get. I would like to challenge each of you that know anybody who owns a business or works for a business that is willing to donate to a youth organization and receive a tax write off that you put our name out there for them. If anyone has anybody interested in donating you can either go to our website www.phrebels.org then click on the sponsor tab at the top. You can also contact Belinda Van Tonder at treasurer@phrebels.org or me, Wayne Stephens, at president@phrebels.org and we will be glad to contact them. Again to make the Rebels family successful we need all of your help.

As president I look forward to working with each of the board members, coaches, parents and the athletes this year. We are looking to do everything we can to give each of your athletes the best experience possible.
